Ice Road Trucker

Yesterday Matt and I tried to make it from my parents' home in Alabama back to our apartment in South Carolina. Well let me just tell you, things did not go as planned! We spent over 5 hours in Matt's truck and never made it to South Carolina. My parents live about an hour from Atlanta, and we never even made it to Atlanta! The roads were in terrible condition to say the least. At one point an 18-wheeler right beside us got stuck in the middle of the road and could not move. Right before we got to Atlanta, the police made everyone get off an exit and shut down the interstate heading east. We then had to turn around, get back on the interstate, and head back to Alabama. On our way back, we had to sit in traffic again! It was a terrible experience. Luckily my mother had packed us a snack bag, so at least we had something to snack on while we were on the road :)

We are going to try again tomorrow. Hopefully we will be more successful then and make it past Atlanta this time. Poor Matt is having to miss work and use up his vacation days. He is not happy about this! Well I'm off to work on my class stuff. Thanks to everyone for all of the sweet comments, and I'm so excited to see have even more followers :) Everyone have a great day!

the weather outside is frightful...

The weatherman was right about the snow! It started snowing last night around 6 and lasted until about 10. I have never in my life seen the snow come down soo hard, and the snowflakes were huge!! I suppose I did see this during the blizzard of '93, but I was too young to remember ;) We got about four inches of snow, and today the snow has become solid ice. Definitely can't build a snowman with this stuff!

This is a picture of my parent's home that I took on Christmas day. I haven't gotten outside with my camera yet today, but we DEFINITELY got way more snow this go around. This Alabama weather has been crazier than normal!

My family and I have been lounging around the house all day, enjoying each other's company. We have cooked, watched movies, and played the Wii. Now we are all just waiting for the National Championship game later tonight. I can't wait! I am so pumped to watch Auburn beat Oregon!!

I will be watching the game at a friend's who lives one street over. Luckily, they have a huge truck that they are going to come pick me up in =) My poor little mercedes just wouldn't make it up the big hill on our street. Well hope I everyone is enjoying their day!!

My First Award

Yesterday Megan @ Mackey Madness gave me MY FIRST AWARD =) This is so exciting for me, especially since I have not been blogging very long! Megan is such a sweetheart and has a great blog. I love checking out her new posts every day!  Everyone should go check her out!!

With this award, I am supposed to list 7 random facts about myself:
1. I've had nose surgery and two heart procedures
2. Sweet Home Alabama is my all time favorite movie
3. I am addicted to Dr. Pepper
4. I love to rearrange furniture, just ask my fiance ;)
5. I am obsessed with HGTV, especially Property Virgins
6. One day, I want to be a Marriage & Family Therapist
7. Wearing a new outfit gives me a boost of confidence!

Now I am supposed to give this award to 15 other fabulous blogs, but since I am still new at this & not following too many blogs yet, I'm going to give it 10 instead =)

I love looking at all of the ladies' blogs. Go check them out!!

Not too much going on around here today. Just getting caught up on some school work & waiting for the snow that's supposed to show up tonight. They are predicting 4-8 inches, which is extremely odd weather for Alabama. I'm hoping that it doesn't snow! Going days without power or being able to leave the house just does not sound fun to me.

Last night, I saw Country Strong at the movies. It was soo good! Gwyneth Paltrow & Leighton Meester were amazing in this movie. A very touching movie & the music was fantastic. I definitely want the soundtrack now.

Chic Inspiration

Hello everyone! Hope you are all having a fabulous Friday =) I know I am! Tonight, Matt and I are going back to Alabama, and he is flying out to Arizona for the National Championship game tomorrow morning. I'm going to miss him while he is gone, but I know he is going to have a wonderful time. He is a HUGEEEE Auburn fan!

Earlier I was looking through some old decor magazines I had laying around the house, and I ran across this AMAZING living room.  There was a web address to view the rest of this chic home, and boy, was it beautiful! So I thought I would share!

I am always looking for inspiration, as we have yet to really decorate our apartment here in SC. Right now, it's really just a hodge podge of everything thrown together. I love the mixture of brown and blue in this photo. We have a brown leather sofa and loveseat, as well as white walls (which we aren't allowed to paint), so this gives me some hope. The look is so calming and natural without being too bland. I may just have to use this photo as a guide for decorating our living room. Who knows though, I'll probably find something else I like better before long. That's my problem, I cannot stick with one design. I am always changing my mind half way through the project.

I also love this office nook that's found in the same home. I wish we had a space like this in our apartment! Maybe one of these days...

This bedroom is stunning as well! Over at Honey and The Moon, Carly has a whole post today devoted to using green as an accent color (specifically greeen/grey color combo). If you like this, go check out her post! Lots of inspiration to be found :)

Hope everyone has a nice weekend!

Christmas Gifts

Hello everyone! Hope you are all having a fantastic day. Classes started back for me today, so I have been trying to get back into the swing of things all morning. So far, it seems like it is going to be a pretty easy semester, and my classes actually seem interesting this time! =) The hardest part for me will be making myself actually read my textbooks rather than fun books. I have recently began reading The Help, and I am hooked! It is such an amazing book.. the best one I have read in a while. If you haven't read it yet, I suggest you do!!

Also, I hear this novel is being made into a movie. I can't wait to see it!

I wanted to share with you the gifts that Matt and I gave some of our family this year for Christmas. I never have been very good at picking out original gifts for people, but this year I think we did a pretty good job. We wanted to give our family something that they would truly love and keep forever. Our parents are always asking for photos of us to put around the house, so we thought that would be the perfect gift.

A sorority sister of mine Shelby took some pictures of Matt and I the week before Christmas. She did such a wonderful job! She is very talented, and I cannot wait to see even more of her work in the future. You can view her portifolio here.

We chose three different photos to give to our family, and our parents received two photos each. My grandparents were also given a photo.

We gave Matt's mom, stepmom, and dad this picture.

Everyone received a copy of this one.

My mother received a copy of this one as well. It was her favorite!

Matt's stepmom Suzanne was so proud of this picture! I have to say Matt looks quite handsome in this photo.

My Nana =)

Our photographer Shelby will be sending us more of the photos pretty soon. I'm so excited to see the rest of them! I will be sure to share them with y'all :)

Back to the Blog World

Well hello everyone.. I can't believe how much time has passed since my last post, but things have been hectic around here to say the least. Between being home for the holidays and spending time with family, I just have not had the opportunity to blog nor the energy.  Also, Matt's grandfather passed away on New Year's Day, so things have been tough the past few days. Now Matt and I are back in South Carolina (at least for a few days)! My online classes start tomorrow, so hopefully getting back into a routine will help me to blog on a regular basis.

The holidays were great at my house! I am sad that they are over already, but we all had such a great time. I could not have asked for a better Christmas & New Year's. Below are a few pictures to give you a look into our Christmas celebration.

Five Question Friday

1. Do you regift...and if so, do you have a regifting horror story? I have a few times in the past. Most often the items I regift are some type of bath item such as scented lotions, bath crystals, or bubble bath. I just really do not use those type items too often (especially if they have a strong scent). I also tend to reuse gift bags that I am given. Great way to save money :) No regifting horror story here, thank goodness!

2. Do you know what you are getting for Christmas this year? Yes, I think I know most of the presents I am getting. As we have gotten older, Santa (mom) has my sister & I pick out our own gifts since we tend to be picky about things like clothing.

3. Who brings the most gifts in your family, you or Santa? Santa definitely brings the most gifts in my family. My parents still write "From: Santa" on every present we get. They always say "If you don't believe, you don't receive" They are so funny! I guess it helps them feel like we are still little kids.

4. What store do you love to by jeans from? I buy my skinny jeans from Forever 21.. They are a great fit & an even better price! I mean who can walk away from jeans that only cost like $15. For bootcut jeans, I have just recently discovered that I LOVE GAP jeans. The length of them are just right for little ole me!!

5. Christmas meal: Big, All Out Meal or Snacks and Apps? Well we have brunch mid-morning on Christmas day & then that night we have an all out meal at my grandparent's house. In between, we snack on yummy appetizers and desserts.

Tomorrow I will be taking the GRE (the test to get into graduate school) I could not be any more nervous about it =\ Pray for me, I'm going to need it! I have been studying all week for this thing, but I do not feel anymore prepared for it than I was at the beginning of the week. Hmm.. but then again maybe I should have started studying wayyy before this week. Guess that's what I get for procrastinating, right?

Tonight my parents and I went shopping after eating Mexican for supper. I completely finished buying all of Matt's Christmas presents. I know, I know... You are probably thinking "she is still Christmas shopping?!?" As you can see, procrastination tends to be a reoccurring theme in my life. I'm sooo excited about Matt's presents this year. I am pretty confident that he will love all of his gifts. I can't wait to see him open all of them.

My family @ last year's Christmas get together

My dad's side of the family is having their annual christmas get together this sunday & I could not be more excited!! We all live pretty far apart & do not get to see eachother all that often. So it is a lot of fun to see everyone and catch up. Plus we have two cute babies on this side & one on the way =) I will post pictures on Monday for y'all! Hope everyone has an amazing weekend!!
